Best Start Grant

update

Best Start Grant School Age Payment is now open for applications.  The payment itself will provide families in Scotland, who are on a low income, with £250 to help with the costs of a child starting school.  People can apply around the time a child normally starts Primary 1 and if they get certain benefits or tax credits.  For this year that means if their child is born on or between 1 March 2014 to 28 Feb 2015.  Applications can be made from 3 June 2019 until 29 February 2020 either online at www.mygov.scot/best-start-grant or by contacting our Freephone helpline on 0800 182 2222. The helpline is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.

Summer Reading Challenge

reading challenge

This year’s theme for the Summer Reading Challenge is Space Chase. It starts on Saturday 15th June through till Saturday 17th August. Children are being challenged to read 6 books and in return they will receive a Space Chase poster where they will have to complete a mission. They collect scratch & sniff collector cards, cool stickers and rewards. They get a kit bag after reading 3 books and a gold medal after 6 books. They will also be presented with a certificate in school after the summer holidays if they take part.

Check out your local library to discover what activities are happening over the summer holidays. This includes lego, games clubs, crafts and much more.

Happy reading!
