The Week Ahead!

charlie

Last week was a particularly busy week at Udston Primary with lots of hands-on Science activities going on in and around the school. Our pupils thoroughly enjoyed ‘training like astronauts’ and we have lots of photographs which will be on display at Parents’ Night next Wednesday 1st April. A huge well done to those who entered the Science Week website competitions to find Astronaut Charlie and to create an alien. Our House Captains, along with Nancy the janitor, are in the process of choosing some prize winners (which is a really tricky job!) and prizes will be awarded at this week’s assembly. A huge thank you also to our parental volunteers who gave up their time to come and work with some of our classes throughout the week.

red nose dayWe hope you all managed to see the Hamilton Advertiser last week with lots of photographs from Red Nose Day! Photographs from the Funny Face Photo Booth have been ordered and pupils who donated will receive their pictures soon.

Partial Solar Eclipse 2015

eclipse

You may already be aware from the news that there will be a partial solar eclipse tomorrow morning which is a perfect end to what has been an action-packed Space-themed Science Week!

Our weekly assembly was changed from our usual Friday morning slot to allow us to focus on the eclipse instead. The plans for each class will vary tomorrow, taking into consideration safety guidelines, and all classes will acknowledge this special event in some way. A live streaming of the eclipse will be viewed on our SmartBoards and some of our more senior classes may choose to make and use pin-hole viewers.

I am sure you will agree that tomorrow’s eclipse is an exciting event and one which we hope the pupils will remember, enjoy and learn from.

It’s Science Week!

Science Week – request for junk!

Plans for our annual Science Week are well underway and as you already know the theme this year is Space/Train like an Astronaut.

We are looking for empty ring-pull tins (without the ring-pull top!) to use in one of our Science experiments. If you come across any of these at home could you please put them in a carrier bag and send them into school. Be prepared for more strange requests as the week goes on!

Many thanks!

Calling all Scientists!

BSABSWRGBHI

The staff Science Development Group are currently organising our annual Science Week which will take place between Monday 16th-Friday 20th March. This year’s Science Week focus will be ‘Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut’ and pupils will be developing their Science knowledge and skills by taking part in a range of space-themed activities and experiments. We have also arranged for Generation Science to come into school to deliver workshops to each class throughout Science Week.

If any of our parents/carers have a background in Science or Technology and would be willing to come into school during Science Week to speak to our pupils then please contact Mrs Turnbull. We would be delighted to hear from you!
